Hi, I’m Kate — And I’ve Been Exactly Where You Are

Apr 15, 2026 | Newborn

If you’ve ever found yourself rocking your baby for the third time in one night, watching the clock creep past 3am with that desperate, hollow feeling of exhaustion, I want you to know something. I’ve been there too. And I mean that in the most literal sense. I’m Kate De Kock, a certified sleep consultant, a former primary school teacher, and a mum of two. My journey into sleep consulting didn’t start in a training room; it started at home, in the early hours of the morning, with my six-month-old son and a level of exhaustion I hadn’t thought possible.

Where My Story Begins

When my eldest was six months old, sleep had become something I could only dream about — ironically. He was waking constantly through the night, completely dependent on his dummy, and needed to be rocked or fed back to sleep every single time he stirred. I was running on empty.

I was also facing my return to work as a primary school teacher, a role that demands every bit of your energy, focus, and patience. The luxury of daytime naps was about to disappear, and my husband and I knew that something had to change. We were desperate to regain control of our nights, our days, and, honestly, ourselves.

So we decided to sleep train. And just three nights later, my son slept soundly through the night.

Three nights. I still can’t quite believe it when I say it out loud.

The change was immediate, and it was profound. My son became noticeably happier. He ate better. And my bond with him grew stronger because I finally had the energy to be fully present with him — not just going through the motions in a sleep-deprived haze. I felt like myself again. And that changed everything.

Why I Made the Leap

After our breakthrough, friends and family started coming to me with their sleep struggles. And I found myself absolutely loving helping them. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about watching an exhausted parent transform into a rested, confident one and knowing you played a part in that. So I decided to transition careers completely and devote myself fully to helping families achieve restful nights. I trained as a certified sleep consultant, and I launched Snug as a Bug Baby Sleep, a business built entirely on the belief that every family deserves to sleep.

My background as a teacher shapes everything I do. I know how to break things down, communicate clearly, and guide someone through a process with patience and encouragement. And I mix all of that with my genuine love for babies and children and my deep understanding of what it means to be a tired, overwhelmed parent. My middle child is my most personal proof point; he was sleeping through the night by just eight weeks old, using the very newborn plan I now offer to families.

How I Work

Everything I do is gentle. There are no crying-it-out methods, no harsh techniques, and no rigid, universal approach. I take the time to understand your baby, your family, and your specific situation, and I build a personalised sleeping plan around you. I’m also there for the wobbles. Sleep training is rarely a perfectly straight line, and I know that. That’s why all of my packages include follow-up support because I want you to feel held throughout the process, not just at the start of it.

Whether you’re navigating those newborn nights for the first time, dealing with a baby who wakes hourly, or trying to transition a toddler into their bed. I have a package that’s designed for exactly where you are right now.

What I Know to Be True

I know what those hazy, short-fuse days feel like. I know what it’s like to have little motivation, to feel like you’re failing, to wonder if it will ever get better. I’ve lived it.But I also know with complete confidence it can get better. Because I’ve seen it happen, over and over again, for the families I’ve worked with. Babies who were waking every hour and sleeping through the night by the third. Parents who hadn’t slept properly in months finally rested and were present again. Couples rediscovering each other on the other side of exhaustion.

Sleep isn’t a luxury. It’s the foundation of a thriving, healthy family. And with the right approach, the right guidance, and a little bit of trust in the process I truly believe every family can get there.

I would love to help yours.
